Anvil crawler lightning, definition: a type of lightning that can appear to crawl out of a cloud during severe thunderstorms. During the dissipation phase of a severe thunderstorm, multiple discharges of lightning that never reach the ground will look like they are clinging to the base of a cloud. Looking up at the cloud base, anvil crawler lightning looks like webs being spun across the sky.
