Poem Artwork

Pain is pain is pain --- doesn't
matter if the injury occured in
peacetime or in war --- it still
hurts, all these years later ---
and what hurts worse is being
ignored, being told the pain is
all in your head --- like I enjoy
pissing all over myself, like I
like tripping over a dropped
foot, falling down, like I savor
nerves cramping or legs going
numb, with shoulders and neck
joining the ranks.  Older I get,
the worse it gets --- Tylenol and
Motrin only go so far before they
stop working.  They abandoned
ship a long time ago --- war is
hell, especially for one who
never saw battle but feels the
heat of wounds thanking me for
my service --- they remember.
They thank me twentyfourseven.

Karla, you have given special meaning to the rewards of the many who have served our nation -- pain and suffering now a constant companion that knows not relenting -- thank you for the gift of service to our nation -- without you and the countless other brave men and women, we would not exist in freedom's cradle -- peace and love be with you my dear friend -- Jon Michael

KARLA - MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND KEEP YOU STRONG-WILLED!

I think maybe where we all went wrong is by NOT NAMING NAMES!

We all blame - 'our government' - 'our leaders' - 'our politicians ' - 'our representatives' -

yes - in general, they are all guilty - but - such nebulous terms do nothing to pull them
in line -

NAME NAMES IN NOVEMBER - VOTE AGAINST EVERY INCUMBENT !!!

Even if someone runs unchallenged - do NOT vote for him/her -

WRITE IN YOUR OWN NAME !!! Peace - TK.

This is acute and heart-ripping poetry, Karla. Agonies of mind and body so well expressed. And the heart-pain is immense. Some care and concern where it matters would alleviate to a certain extent, but I pray that treatments might also improve and for cures to be found. Our love and sympathy seems so little yet can mean so much. If all our thoughts and prayers were prescriptions, you'd be well in no time! You're a strong and brave woman who fights on nobly and we all hope and pray for you to be restored to full fitness. But, thankfully, there is nothing wrong with your pen! You wield it here as ever powerfully. xx

When my bullets or shrapnel wounds pain come I use my time cursing the jerks-poor-shots that missed my heart. It make me feel better!!!

You are not alone and we have a government who does not care for anyone. I am so sorry you are suffering so and in my prayers you will remain always. You really do deserve so much better....

Be always safe,

Pain and frustration and a sense of helplessness pervade this piece, Karla; you don't hold back...nor should you.

I can feel your pain Karla, I have not served as you have, but I can relate to this in many ways, it makes me mad the way our goverment treats those who served...You are ever in my prayers...

Shame on how our government doesn't even care, Karla! You've expressed the hurt and pain so effortlessly; that's what makes this real. Sad poem; powerfully penned! Well done; brava!

(((HUGS))), much love, and continued prayers~

As always, your twin, Karen Lynn. :(

All to well I know that feeling...I put in almost thirty years working for my government only to lose everything when my heart decided I should retire and gave out.
