Lest we forget ...

Poem Artwork

It's a deep, dark November in
my soul, even though the sun
is shining.  The wind sniffs
around my shoulders, seeking
a way into the marrow, chilling
me to the bone.  You should
be standing tall at my side ----
instead, I lay tear dampened
poppies at your feet.  Damn
this war.  Your name chiseled
on a headstone is not the
legacy you wanted to pass on
to our son ---- but it is one
I'll make sure he won't forget.

(c) 2010, Karla Dorman (11/5)

It is a legacy of immense pride and commitment to noble causes. It is just so unfortunate that ultimate sacrifice was required. Karla, a riveting reminder of the sacrifices for freedom, peace and humanitarian causes my dear friend. Jon Michael

Chilling and tender, Karla. One of your best poems. I love the imagery of the wind sniffing for a way in. Bravo.

A most apt and timely offering, Karla. Yes war is hell and hell is probably war. Thank you. Love and best wishes to you,
