Reuters: An Afghan police commander and several of his men killed three U.S. soldiers in the southern province of Helmand, turning guns on them after inviting them to a dinner to discuss security, Afghan officials said on Friday.
The men were all American Special Forces members and were killed on Thursday night while attending a meeting in the Sarwan Qala area, in what appeared to be a planned attack by rogue Afghan forces.
My heart is broken.

First time I've paid your page a visit, and obviously, your are a spinner of poetic op eds. Like, me, you must find it difficult to scan the current events without needing to express some possible poetic answer to the insanity. Just today, I had to pen some short stanzas on "Self-Love" as I was reminded (as I have been for many years) self-hate is not the answer, even though it's embraced far too often in the name of some God. Thank Dog I'm past that notion of nonsense.
It is a real sad state when those whom we attempt to assist choose to make us enemies enough to spew their hatred in bullets, bombs and the form of evil death. People like them will never be civil and will only export their terrorist ideals because Satan is in them.

I AM SO SORRY THAT THIS HAPPENED...SO SORRY THAT THEY WENT IN THE FIRST PLACE BUT AMERICANS ARE KNOWN TO RESPOND WHEN A CHANCE FOR PEACE ARISES AND THIS IS WHAT THE AFGHANS WERE BANKING ON. NEXT TIME THEY EVER WANT TO HAVE A 'TALK' OVER A MEAL ABOUT PEACE, TELL THEM TO BRING IT TO THE US CAMP - FOOD AND ALL. AND NOT JUST ONE OF THE AFGHANS EITHER BECAUSE IT MIGHT BE A SUICIDE BOMBER. Sad commentary on trust. In guerrilla warfare, there are no gentlemanly agreements. The innocence of childhood is changed before children reach their teen years after they see so many atrocities and are indoctrinated into thinking that free people abhor.
Who are we to think that we can change them? Especially with the use of Armed Forces. I think it is time that we leave them to their own devices. All of the diabolical regimes out there that we have left alone, including the old Soviet Union, have crumpled under their own misguided ideology. For us to send our soldiers into a quagmire is asking them to die for nothing. Time to pull out. Thanks for reminding us.
As Karen stated about our boys and "war crimes"...can this not be made to be the same thing...I see it as such...in fact this might be more so by much...e
And meanwhile our soldiers are getting charged with war crimes. REALLY?? Something very wrong here .... powerful lines of sadness and anguish; my heart bleeds ....
