A tribute to our brave men and women who have always defended our freedom....

Poem Artwork

Elvis, Marilyn, Michael and “O”,
We’ll always remember them and yet,
Hitler, Bin Laden, and a ripper named Jack,
Are names we’ll never forget!
Reverend King, Mother Theresa and a princess named Di,
Different and yet the same!
Their spirits emblazoned upon the world
We reverently speak their names!
But there are icons that have no name,
Yet they sacrificed their lives.
Thousands of soldiers who bravely fought
So hope and freedom could thrive!
We’ll never know every one of their names,
Too many have died through the years.
Leaving mothers, fathers, daughters and sons,
Adrift in a sea of tears!
But we must immortalize all of them,
And our children must understand why
Those heroes fought to protect us all,
Even though they knew they might die.
We must never forget our defenders,
For without them where would we be?
They believed in justice and freedom for all,
And because of them we are free!

No one seems to remember Stalin who managed to kill more than 25 million people. Europe had two terrors, at least - Hitler AND Stalin.

But never mind that - diverse, immense piece that shows one of the greatest conflicts our made & experienced histories will ever have, only the actors change, situation keeps the same.

thank you!

AMEN, Annabel. As long as one person remembers, they will not be forgotten. They won't be Nameless Icons if I can help it. Excellent poetry, powerful reminder.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

That is correct, and we all would be writing and reading in German.

GOD BLESS YOU

To remember them at all, my dear friend, is quite enough. They weren't after accolades, they were just fighting for what they believed was right.
