Autumn stirs the soul...

Poem Artwork

Death of August

With the dying of August
September rejoices
It is her turn to dance
and dance she does
but the autumn wind lifts up
her skirts
and blows about
her dappled colored gowns
and as these tatter
and as they fray
leaving gold and crimson shreds
upon the leaf carpeted floor
and naked she becomes
October gleefully leers

as much as I don't like to see the end of Summer = you paint Fall as a nice season and into Winter that follows, it can be a good time also.

Wonderful portrayal of the end of Summer and the birth of Fall. Nice imagery throughout. A pleasure to read.

yes, this is perfect a bit whimsical, but, isn't Autumn just that. We here on the east coast did not have a winter last year. We were spoiled like never before. The mood this fall is grim. It has been cloudy and drizzly and people are in FEAR of this coming winter like we are due a payback. So let's enjoy the gifts of fall for now! Wonderful poem Regis!!!!!

Since our house is surrounded by several towering, centuries old, giant oaks, I know autumn well and know the handle of a rake. The leafs and acorns that fall each autumn are legend around this house. Right now, there is a forest of green with a helmet of blue outside the window of my study. Soon, that green will change to bare branches and gray skies.

Hi Regis, I never cared for Autumn, even though my b-day is in Aug. I always looked at it like "too many deaths". I know now it's only a dormancy, a rest, till life becomes again in Spring. I do like this write, it dances with the autumn colors.

How fitting, the change of the calendar with the change of the seasons. Like a dance it is, and you captured the essence of the change so well.

Regis, an excellent personification of Autumn, joyous but with somber overtones. You express the mood perfectly: "October gleefully leers," even while September has an early Mardi Gras.
