Some women are like dreams, beautiful; but there is a fine line between a dream and a nightmare...
Black Flowers
Flowers of evil -
Black shiny petals
In bright moonlight
Ebony dewdrops
Dark tears
From some black hole
In hidden heaven
Pick a deadly dozen
Feed them to the mares of night
Until they breathe its death bouquet
And die
Let sweet dreams return
That dawn may find me
Rested
Renewed
Restored
Raring to replant the burned out fields
Ready for the new dimension
And sow new dreams
To grow a crop
Of new reality

Only with shadows can we truly learn to appreciate the light :) My multiple personalities relate well to this peace (Indeed, the battle of light and dark does rage within) Funny how even though some flowers can poison, we still insist on stopping and smelling the roses. Hopefully you have enjoyed more light than dark. Found this to be quite thought provoking and truly enjoyed the process. Thank you :) N
Were you writing about my first or second wife in that first stanza? I've been there and lived that nightmare. Too many wild days in my youth. Now, I'm Rested, Renewed, Restored -- so true for those that start life over with a new reality. Thank you.
Wow, powerfully dark yet powerfully affirming at the same time. I like the looking toward the light after being consumed by the dark. No one should have that power over us! We are perfect unto ourselves. Love, real love should it find us, enlarges or expands what is us. Anything else is illusion. Brilliant write, Regis!

I do like the way you go from the dark and sinister here, Regis, to hope and optimism. Moving from negativity into positivity - you remind me here that it is all our choice. Beautifully worded.
through the field of black flowers you seek hope for the future. maybe we could intro a few of them to my ex... they deserve each other! Your friend, Kathy
Black flowers are what I've encountered over the years. Deadly, that has brought me misery but I've survived from their poison to become me. Did you know they gave me definition. very good job on this poem. Have a wonderful day. GREEAATT!
Oh my, Reg! You seem to be having some very bad "sleeps". However, they DO strike up your imaginative poems: Great expressed emotions in this one.

Regis: i like the meter in this poem, and the conciseness. I am a great fan of alliteration, so deadly dozen, and then all the "R" words work for me, except I think that the poem would be stronger if you used only a few of them. I really like the feed them to the mares of night, separating out night and mares, such that mare is a horse, a horse that, of course, must eat. And death bouquet is such a good oxymoron; I think it works well here. I think the grammar is a little off on "seed new dreams" but I do get the sense of it anyway. I like this poem, Regis (another "R!"), it has a dark seductive atmosphere about it. Thanks for posting it.
It is a good idea to pick up your life, from time to time, and shake it out like an old dusty rug. It is freeing and refreshing, and opens the door to unlimited possibilities.
Take care,
Sherry
Seeding new dreams, I like that!

The images portrayed are stunning. Dreams can be interpreted in many ways. This is a look at the darker side of them. As you pointed out , there is a very fine line between dreams and nightmares.. I totally agree.......M
This is a wonderful poetic expression of how to me love feels when it dies, love has death & it is very painful as we all know

These particular "black flowers" sound like they belong with the Four Horsemen. A dark piece ... a nightmare one wishes to wake from quickly to find the light. Well done Reg. Hugs, Elizabeth
Very interesting. And yes, it's a bit eerie indeed, gothic style. I can imagine the music accompanying the words. Merits a lot of reading, so the entire dimension becomes clear. :)

The lightness verses the darkness..well written and somewhat eerie!
I knew one of those and believe me they are a dark nightmare, although, after the encounter one doesn't have the thoughts about Renewed, Restored, or Ready, they left us kind of shy.
A poem to masticate throughly, swallow and gain experience.
I too dream weird dreams as I am sure you do too. Is this one of them? I like this write anyway. our thoughts come out very well as you write here like this. You are not alone in writing what comes naturally, we all do it. Good write.

The Garden of Life is filled with irresistible flowers that poison the soul. Better they fill our dreams than our reality for it's an unworkable challenge to unring the bell for whom they toll.
As to your posted portrait, I hope the blonde in the back is not who I think it is! (Psst, Reg: Don't give out my new number.)
I think I'll hitch my pony to those new dreams, and avoid those black flowers, nice write Reg.I guess we all have to go through the fire at least once,

Regis,
I love the sound of "Pick a deadly dozen". For me, this is the most foreboding line. I think most people know that inner beauty is more important. They just lose sight of that fact when confronted with a pretty face. A wise message here. Love and Hugs,
Sheila
A metaphor all too true, Regis...there is growth in your poetry today, and there is growth in your soul...moving on for the betterment of happy living...
