There is a French expression, "plus c'est la meme chose, plus ça change," which means "the more things change, the more they stay the same." I was reminded of this after reading several recent articles and editorials in various periodicals on the current state of affairs. During the Cold War, the communist states enslaved people, committed atrocities, and sponsored terrorism, all the while blaming the West for the ills of the world. The Left, both inside and outside the U.S., facilitated their propaganda by echoing it and, indeed, amplifying it. Today, Islamic states enslave people, commit atrocities, and sponsor terrorism, all the while blaming the West for the ills of the world. Again, the Left, both inside and outside the U.S., facilitates their propaganda by echoing it, etc. This sounds all too familiar. And all too depressing. Let us hope that Islamism (or Islamofascism if you prefer) goes the same way as communism. But, I must say, I’m not all that sanguine about the possibility.
