The American left is undermining our efforts in the war on terror and sabotaging the efforts of our troops in Iraq. Once again the American left is about to torpedo the efforts of our military forces. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, leftists and other crazies gave aid and comfort to the enemy, the Viet Cong, the NVA and their Communist sponsors elsewhere, by demonstrating and (in some cases) rioting in order to end the war in Vietnam. As a result, we gave up and left Vietnam to it's fate. Fortunately, the Vietnamese government has finally seen the light and is starting to realize the benefits of capitalism (after the deaths of thousands of people and the denial of basic rights to its citizens for decades).
Now we seem to be doing the same thing in the Middle East. Iraq, however, is not Vietnam and the stakes are far greater. If we give up now, there will be chaos and, in the end, we'll end up with an area which become a haven for terrorists, if not an outright terrorist state. THIS MUST NOT HAPPEN.
This war (if you can call it that) IS winnable. Why in hell can't we at least wait until General Petreus gives his report in September? Is it because it may say some things the Democrats don't want to hear? What ever happened to "bear any burden, pay any price," (the words of John F. Kennedy)?
I am a Vietnam veteran. I was disgusted by the anti-war left back then and I am disgusted by these same people now.
For better or worse, Iraq is "center stage" in the war against terror and radical Islam. We cannot let the Democrats do the bidding of nutcases like Cindy Sheehan and Jane Fonda and undermine our efforts there.
The stakes are too great, even greater than they were back in 1975.
