Get out there with your book even when you feel that it might not be worth it. Many people feel that way about small, local book fairs, which it could mean a light turnout, but you never know.
You never know who you might meet. They might not buy your book but they may give you advice that could help you. And you pick up little tips by watching other authors. You can see what might work for you also and what clearly would not.
But when you turn a small book fair down because you feel it’s “just not worth it” then you run the risk of not making the connections which could be useful to you.
As independent authors we need to give ourselves every advantage because every situation has the possibility to make a big difference in how our books perform, but of course, we need to see it that way.
