Here’s a take about global warming: why not global RESPONSIBILITY?
Depending upon what you choose to believe, we’re burning up the planet from cow farts or car farts--or we’re not and the Earth shall survive. I tend to look at it this way: it matters not what is farting what, but what are WE doing? Is it responsible? If not, then stop doing it. Sure, change doesn’t happen overnight, but if we’re kicking pollutants and whatnot out into the air, then stop it and figure out a better way to do what we’re doing without poisoning our world. Goes for gas (uh, not the flatulent kind...). Find alternative fuel resources. Be smart about it. Not to get all Forrest Gump on ya, but my Dad always said to take responsibility for your actions.
Who knows what is really going on; all we know--short of visiting these places ourselves firsthand or reading the actual reports--is what the media funnels before our faces. But I tend to believe that, yes, we are affecting our planet to the point of rescinding ice caps and gnarlier storms. Look, the simple fact is whether or not the Earth can pull out of this or survive over some timeline that doesn’t involve us, there are MORE of us on this planet than there were yesterday or two-thousand years ago. With that, there are more cars and factories and you name it than there were two-thousand years ago. All that “stuff” has to go somewhere. It’s like living in a smoke-filled room. Sure, the HVAC system can filter it out, but--eventually--that filter will need changing, whether or not that involves us in the picture. We have to stop thinking profits and start thinking accountability. I think there are also other factors involved (that’ll have to be for future blogs). But suffice it to say that I feel we ARE directly involved in the growing effects of global warming, and we have to behave more responsibly about terminating our irresponsible acts for more responsible ones. If there really wasn’t an issue, I don’t feel there’d be all the ruckus. Heck, I remember it being talked about back in the seventies. And I’ve noticed a change in the climates of the areas in which I’ve lived, and this incarnation du moi hasn’t even been walking the Earth for nigh half a century....
