If anyone watched Larry King last night (May 30, 2008), they found out that that “Romanek video” out on YouTube was a fake.
Yup, a FAKE.
The perpetrator?
Matthew “B” (I’m not entirely sure of his last name, but know it started with a “B,” so am not listing it here; Internet searches did yield a name, but I can’t find a clear image of the guy to compare with who I saw, and on Larry King I also seem to recall “Matthew” was spelled “Mathew”; so I’m not giving any last names and am not spending all day researching this), of what may have been the Rocky Mountain Paranormal society (I thought it was a “Denver paranormal society”). On Larry King this “Mathew” told the world that he had intentionally created the video for under a $100.
Well, it certainly answered that question of why and how did a clip get out there in the first place, because Peckman said it would not be shown to the public until later in the year. I figured it was supposed to be “just another leak.”
So why didn’t this “Mathew” post the video with the disclaimer “FAKE--I created this to prove a point”? It’s behavior like this that perpetuates disinformation and credibility gaps. For conspiracy theorists, it further fuels their mission. For debunkers and those of similar ilk it also further fuels their mission. It’s tailor made (conspiracy theorists will know what I’m talking about).
The upshot is that it continues to muddy the waters.
On Larry King, Mr. Romanek said that though he’s had the video for five years, “scientists” (my quotes; conspiracy theorists will again know what I’m talking about...) are still pouring over it and he said he does have some kind of confidentiality agreements in place with the documentary he’s also working on.
These provide interesting statements.
If the video has existed for five years, and with the current state of high-tech media analysis out there...why is it still being held from public view and a public scientific statement? If this “Mathew” could create what he did in less than a day, and that Colorado film instructor claimed that it looked as if it had met certain film specifications that show a continuous video timeline and not “cut-and-pasted” (my term), then why the five years of analysis? Wouldn’t a fake have been unmasked LONG ago?
Put on all your Tin foil hats and think about that one for a while.
And it’s strange I can’t seem to find any other information on the Larry King fakeness statement, but, again, spending all day surfing the web just ain’t my bag.
So, keep looking to the skies...and keep an OPEN mind.
