Had a nice stroll through my woods today. It is so relaxing to be out of the city.

Photo; My back yard

Poem Artwork

I took a brief walk in the woods today

To observe the things I rarely see

Much to my amusement I spied

A raccoon high up in a tree

The tree was all bent over

The raccoon was sawing logs

It was just me and him

And about a hundred frogs

His four legs dangled from the branch

On big belly he did lay

I tried to snap a photo

But the big one got away

I didn’t mean to disturb him

And I hope he comes back soon

I like the thought of my back yard

Being home to a fat racoon

In all my wild years, I never saw a raccoon. And then, a few years ago, I talked my helper into an evening drive out to Brazos Bend, my favorite Texas State Park. She was filming and said, :"What's that?" We got the raccoon and several other critters on film that evening and it is at my website under "My Tube."

A walk in nature refreshes the spirit and a racoon adds inspiration for a poem. Enjoy your summer, Patrick...
