( No Resentments, No Regrets )

My sentence nearly commuted...
Was time served with no regrets?
Perhaps I am not the one to
answer that question. Maybe the
thousands of names that adorn
The Memorial Wall are better suited to reply.

Their echoes and spirits live
on through our memories. They
are truly the heroes. The faithful,
who gave up life itself for
a cause that remains a mystery.
Names without faces...

I visit The Wall every now and then.
Finding the names of those who
touched my soul, and running my
hand over them, I connect the face
to that name, and know they are
gone but will never be forgotten.

It's been thirty eight years since
my experience. I remember as
if it were yesterday. Freedom
carries a high price. Whether
just or unjust it is my birthright.
As prisoner within myself, I
harbor no resentments, no regrets.
