It's Not Nice To Fool Mother Nature

You purge yon tempest from the sea,
to stroke and soothe it's vanity.
Tides lay dormant at your feet,
Raging winds beg fond retreat.

Pounding surfs no longer seethe,
onto your battered shores erode.
Serenity has paused to breathe,
until thy dire wrath explode.

With arms extended left to right,
mercy's path has feared your brew.
Destruction hails to fill the night
and darkened skies are lit anew.

Oh! fickled daughter of the fate,
one's destiny can not endure.
Life's wanton hand is but to sate,
of one whose child is so demure.

Paul: I can feel the calmness and the serenity in this poem. Our emotions ARE like nature. Mother Nature has a real sudden way of shaking things up. One minute everything's fine and then the next everything's been wiped out as far as the eye can see. I used to live in Moore, OK--I survived three tornadoes in 4 1/2 years including that one with 318 mph winds. Excellent write. Thanks for sharing.

Oh, my.. this was like being in the company of the masters.. and not easily summed up in this little box.. the rhyme and meter is perfect.. the 'mind pictures' not easily shaken, nor would I wish them to be. Simply gorgeous, Paul. katy

Gosh I dropped by to say thanks for commenting on my poem "Captured" and couldn't stop reading your words - loved them all but "Mother Nature" seemed perfect for me to read after having written mine. Would you like to share any of your poetry on my website http://www.poetryhighway.com ? We'd love to have one to place up for the month of November. Have a blessed day!
