Hi my Den Friends
there's a new poet at the den
That I like to bring to your attention
to me she is an outstanding writer
Ms. MoNi Harrell, please welcome her to the Den.
I found myself driving
On the hard blacktop
In an unknown direction
Of a lost highway.
Suddenly within my distant view
Several miles
Towards the horizon, to my front
I saw a huge monstrous
White plume
Of smoke bellowing demonically
Into the heavens high.
As I neared
The un-expecting nightmare
Had horrors to unfold
The closer I approached
The wider
The smoke screen became
Now nothing looked the same
Nor sane.
Hues changed at tree top levels
Appearing a soft orange
Furnecing to a deeper
As I neared, satanic red.
Huge arms of flames
Reacking towards the sky
All beyond, passed the flames
Was burnt
Scorched was the earth
Death of critters
Scattered like litter
For miles, passed the horizon
Of Death.
I am still envolved with Tom's death and reading writes about death is still my thing. This one is good. Thanks for sharing. It helps to get him off my mind some to read good writes.
Did ya ever find the highway you were driving on...;) Ed

Hi William,
Riveting! A very descriptive poem, William.
I recently returned from The Blue Ridge Mountain Parkway in VA.
I couldn't imagine an outbreak of this magnitude happening there because it's so very beautiful. Yes, when the fire gets so hot and there are nothing to set them back, they will burn with a devilish passion. The wildlife suffers as we do not knowing at first glace just what started the burning blaze. Kudos to you!
William...my friend, you never cease to amaze me with your classic write...this one is yet another example of your poetic skills....good to read u again...love n luck...BHUWAN!!!
The forest fires that occur now are due to dehydrated forests and the carelessness of campers or the ever ready disgarded cigarette. It is a crime against man and nature and those who cause these arsons of our countryside should be held accountable.
