My friend Abucar Haji Iman lived in the United States of America over the past 23 years. He came now to Mogadishu, to see his ailing father who this year celeberated his 106th birthday. Abu spent a night with me at my small house in the suburbs of Mogadishu where I raise my family, some chicken and few Somali birds. There is also a goat but it defected to a neighbor's herd to join its sweet heart, a long bearded he-goat. I do not know if the beast would release my goat after finishing with it.
For the first time in two decades
Abu paid a short visit to Mogadishu
He lives in Rochester, MN with his family
Soon as I was divulged of his arrival
I rushed to his residence at Suuq-Bacaad
Abu is a man of profound integrity
He has broad vision for human concerns
His sympahty for somalia is quite deep
He is calm, gentle and cool-tempared.
His stability is shown in every move he makes
He is on sound footing with his emotions
Abu was booked for many receptions
As my turn came, I took him to a dinner
We talked at length over many issues
Night fell upon us while still chatting
Darkness robbed our sight with impunity
But we managed to have our eyes back
We laughed as we watched the shining sky
Stars entertained us with alternate winks
Abu has felt less control over his balance
The weight of a heavy sleep crept on him
His body, not mind, guided him to bed
Cock’s crow awakened us early enough
Cold though it was, we said our prayers
Abu wished to see the light of the day
to stroll around and drink sunshine
But darkness lingered much longer.
It was not willing to move over
It posed a cosmic challenge to the sun
It had its hoofs stuck on the sands of fate
It argued that Somalia needed more dark than light
It quarreled that darkness itself
has enough light to see and rule Somalia
At that stage I and Abu came under strong seizure
Forces of supernatural power grabbed us
Our souls joined other souls to fight evil
All those who prayed for Somalia
were in the frontline of the freedom war
I identified some of them as AD poets
Within no time victory was in our hand
Darkness was licked up. It lost its original thickness.
soft was it made by the power of crushing beams
Rays equipped with infrared tracked it down
Some pockets remained in hiding, though
But behind the beautiful green hills
an inch of the sun became visible
Remnants burned before the smile rounded its face
Light came thereupon as fresh as a baby’s breath.
Abu was happy. I was happy, too.
Everybody was happy.
Abdi-Noor, though you are half a world away my prayers will reach you, your country and your family and friends. Man is such an imperfect creature who denying divinity would rather harm than pray and love. PEACE AND BLESSINGS my brother for it is people like you who keep the more fortunate grounded in reality. < < <HUGS>>>your other American friend MIKII.
