It is my understanding that we are sliding back to yet another civil war quite similar to the one we have been fighting over the past 16 years.

Along those borders we share with Kenya and Ethiopia, the situation is quite grim. It is far away from the capital city of Mogadishu but nobody knows when and how fast it will reach us.

Worse still something can happen here before the one expected to take place in the border has even begun.

When war breaks out there will be rockets landing in residential areas killing and maiming innocent people. There will be thieves around every street robbing people of their belongings.

There will be shortage of food and water and almost all basic services whose supply has already been inadequate.

The neighboring countries will seal off their borders in fear of getting armed groups into their country.

Flights will be suspended for a period of time and the seaport will no more function because of continuous shelling by rival factions.

A long-time looming of Humanitarian crisis will explode like a volcano in almost all corners of the country and it will take time until agencies get sufficient donations from the international community.

This delay of funds and the lack of safe corridors to deliver humanitarian supplies will cause catastrophes and painful human tragedies as the scale of death mainly that of women and children, will be enormously high.

Many people will be displaced from their original locations, their farms destroyed and livestock looted.

We are in the verge of extinction if this trend continues for the few coming years. Our country has already been divided and ruled by clan chiefs and religious groups whose vision is blurred by tribal wars based on destruction and revenge.

We have become the center stage of a regional conflict. Ethiopia and its allies are supporting the Transitional Federal Government while the Arab nations are siding with the Islamists who recently took over the control of Mogadishu. Somalia is no more in the hands of Somalis.

Yet the world does not see this menace unfolding before our own eyes. They are focused on other problems taking in places where they have special political and economic interests.
