Don't Wear Green (We Don't Need the Rain)

Although this sounds silly to me now, green IS my 'bad luck' color (just in case you're wondering--purple and gold are my 'good luck' colors). Everytime I wore a green dress, especially this UGLY flowered one, it not only rained but flooded our plat! No kidding! I had superstitious relatives who also lived in the plat who all begged me NOT to wear green :)!
**********************

Ma called me a jinx!
True, my luck was bad--
but it was all I had.
Whenever I wore green
everything turned sad.
Cascades of rain poured
water inside roared
then houses wore boards.

Green on me was wrong—made my ankles ‘sprang’.
Everybody knew I flooded, refrained:
”Don’t wear your green dress! We don’t need the rain!”
Helping my mom out
glasses disappeared--
all people wore a beard!
I could not see straight--
faces blurred, eyes teared.
Knew we’d need a boat
though some swam, can’t float …
outside was a moat.

Green on me was wrong—made my ankles ‘sprang’.
Everybody knew I flooded, refrained:
”Don’t wear your green dress! We don’t need the rain!”

Word got around town
that I had worn green.
Folks were ‘up in arms’
angry … getting mean.
So I changed, wore pink …
let flood waters sink.
Folks – superstitious—stink!

Green on me was wrong—made my ankles ‘sprang’.
Everybody knew I flooded, refrained:
”Don’t wear your green dress! We don’t need the rain!”

Delightful poem, Sandy. I don't like green either except on trees and plants and such. It looks great on nature. Love and peace. Regis

Very interesting, Sandra, since my lucky color is green - but all hell breaks loose when I wear red.
