Mythic Merriment

The breeze from the sea
as fresh as a Mendelssohn
violin melody, he says.

Swathed in the sweet
scent of seaweed, she says

Honey, you have the soul
of a poet. .

Don’t call me Honey. She runs
into the midnight surf.

Waist-high in ocean water,
she waves her golden bikini top
in triumph and cries, Call me Thetis,
mistress of the sea, custodian
of all the fishes.

At the flash of thunder,
Poseidon lifts her lightly to the shore
into her lover’s waiting arms.

Take me to your sacred cave,
my fair Peleus.

Come, my lovely sea nymph.
Will my red convertible chariot
with satin seats, stereophonic sound,
and moon roof suffice?

What--no ambrosia bar?
No nectar of the gods?

It’s on order, he says.
Laughter shakes the night.

They spend the night on satin seats
under a roof of stars, rocking
to the rhythms of the sea
and a Mendelssohn violin melody.

Oh my goodness what fun, and such light-hearted playfulness! I imagine these two quite vividly through your words, Gene ... rich, sharp details so fine that I can hear, feel, and see it all! Splendid! ~Elizabeth

Hmmm, the Muses must have been active-I wrote a mythic poem about this same time and it turned into a play I'm still writing. Sounds like heaven, this playful and passionate romp!

Oh brother! and I thought that I was the only one hung on Mendelssohn and Paganini melodies...and Thetis the one sleeping with the fishes? she shouldn't have do her thing in NY little Italy if I was her.
But "mythic Merriment" the poem, should be read a few times while sipping a good aged and breathed Barolo with room temperature.
One can't write more nice.

Georg

the playful spriteful lithe epi.c/enter of these words....
how they bend to the moment, willing and wild.
your use of nature as nuanced innuendo is unsurpassed.
and i drown in the whirling pool of love shining and glistening.

soft as winded whisper and i can really see her eyes sparkling of your own. the water and sunshine envious of the play.
scene II.

... right, what time are you calling by to pick me up, then?! :)) Has the feel-good of a classical version of Grease, Gene, and reckon you could sell rights to this screenplay... Tell me more, tell me more! That moon roof sounds absolutely divine! xx

I loved this poem, Gene, my favorite part:
They spend the night on satin seats
under a roof of stars, rocking
to the rhythms of the sea
and a Mendelssohn violin melody.

very erotically enticing!
Much peace, love, and light,

Gene,
Witty, erudite and wonderfully imaginative this romp is an early morning dessert for me and so easy to digest it goes down like a smoothie; the world of myth, love, lust, want and of course joyous fantasy all celebrated in the definitive Williamson style.

I love the way you write, Sir Gene. Amazingly visual feast for the eyes, your words - sigh. Reminds me of Pablo Neruda ... one of my favorites. One of your best. Well done.

Love and passion in full bloom could never be better, and these gods approve. After all, Poseidon returns her to her lover's arms. I wonder what the Vatican would have done in the same situation or an evangelical Christian? Probably boil them in oil.

You bring light-heartedness and fun to romance, Gene. This is a wonderful blend of classic and modern. It is witty, smart and romantically enthralling all at once. I love the use of the word "swathed."

Breasts of buoyancy - this one floats, Gene - message in jugs. Mendelssohn didn't take a backseat to anybody in the Romantic era of popular composers...throw in a bottle of German wine to christen his German-Jewish heritage and Felix gives a virtuoso in an environment of intense intellectual ferment - Mythic Merriment is an aquatic concert of backseat lovemaking with the top down...

Sage

"Will my red convertible chariot" & "and moon roof suffice"...he must be a pretty darn good god, a convertible & a moon roof, or is this god you sir...? And what, no picture of this young lady without her golden bikini top...? I had fun with the thought of this one, now take a cold shower and calm yourself...Ed
