-- A Red Red Rose -- John Herlihy A red red rose, in the heart of winter. Soothing the eyes of my heart, And its gnawing splinter. Fringed in frost as if fringed in lace, The silent beauty in crimson joy. Leaves behind a smile on my face, As if my miseries to destroy. In the winter of our discontent, The entire world swoons. While there in snow content, The solitary red rose blooms. The sight drains away my sorrow, Filling me with hope for tomorrow. - - - - - - Copyright © John Herlihy 7 September 2020
