Poem Artwork

Sitting on a rock jetty,

That butts out from humanity,

Like an arthritic finger pointing east,

Listening to the waves to me speak,

In my mind their words never cease…

They tell me of their troubles,

They touch me with their bubbles,

Around me they do flow,

Encircling me, their lives to me they show…

Floating with them, the flotsam of humanity,

Take from us they do mans insanity,

And return it with all due haste,

To man in the form of vanity…

Such stories told by waves so great,

Of how they did sink mans ships like bait,

Man has left in his path behind such waste,

The ocean, my dear friend, has no longer any taste…

Not so long ago I was travelling over those seas and my heart sank when I saw its beauty showing the spoils of man's garbage.

Ed, you pushed the right button with this one. Man and his abuse
of the sea. I like the photo, and I'm certain I recognize the scene. Cape May? If I don't get back to you, have yourself a most happy New Year's Eve...and a productive 2009. -gene.

Well done, Ed! I always enjoy your nature poems. This one certainly conveys your love of the ocean and a poigniant disgust of humanity's abuse of her. Thanks for sharing, Ed.

Ed,

I love to hear the sound of ocean waves; soothing to the soul! If I were her, though, I'd be seriously ticked, for what mankind has done to her. Well done!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
