Beach trip...

The ocean always soothes the savage breast, as well as music...

Poem Artwork

 The sun was scorching,

The sand no cooler,

The ocean damn nice,

Out of the south-south east a slight breeze,

But the humidity brought me today to my knees…

I am most certainly out of shape,

Walking between the dunes and the ocean a chore,

But as I lay on the sand, the ocean as ever not a bore,

The ocean & beach as ever a wonderfully great escape…

Fortunately no kids screaming,

Very few mid-week visitors,

And like me sitting on the beach & day dreaming,

Though the heat was so hot, I felt as though I was steaming.

This is a hot summer. This weekend, I have the beach and son, but also kids screaming at the hotel's pool. You've inspired me to take a walk on the beach. Far from the madding crowd.

Doncha just love burning your feet on the sand! The sun burning you up and the constant sound of the surf driving you mad! The beach where I come from has the largest mosquitoes you've ever seen that attack you in broad daylight as soon as you slip over the dunes to do your duty so that you don't pollute the ocean, just the land.

Sounds like you had a great day at the beach anyway. Jogged your memory of happy times.

Your words sure tell me that you had one hell of a day at that beach! I envy you right now. I can smell the salt water!

Love ya!

Wonderful thoughts within this poem, Ed. Loved each and every line. You love the ocean and express your love fantastically.

Except for the steaming, this sounds just about perfect.

Thankfully, despite your discomfort, you were still inspired enough to write about it. Nice pic. Peace...

Thank you for sharing this peaceful experience of renewal, Ed. I believe the sea can be very therapeutic. I have written about it on more than one occasion although I see to prefer forest and mountain. :)

Near the Sea I Breathe

Oh to be by the tranquil sea
untouched by the soiled hands of humanity

To rest
upon the golden dunes

To watch
the sea and sky unite
white birds
green sea
grey sky
glimpses of sun
emerald grass
golden sand

To smell
the scent of salty sea

To feel
the cool clean touch of carefree wind
and drops of spray from spotless sea

To taste
the air of salty sea

To hear
the plaintive cries of birds
that come and go and come again
the song and sigh of wild yet gentle wind
through grassy dunes
the soothing rhythmic roar of waves upon the beach
the serene song of the deep

To sleep
in peace until the gentle sea
nudges my face with cool and liquid touch
and wakens me ~ Regis

Love and peace to you, Ed.

Regis
