Death By Winter

Why cannot winter and summer co-exist?

Poem Artwork

  “DEATH BY WINTER”

Blooming seems reserved for spring & summer foliage,

But what of the beauty of fall & its colors,

Do we call it, un-blooming or de-blooming?

The grass turns brown,

Leaves drop from the trees,

To be blown away in the wind or mulched to help next years crop,

Flowers hide their wonderful blooms,

I think if I could, the best of both worlds would be my desire,

Winter with its cold and snow, but flowers and greenery could be present

          as well,

Yes, the snow would cover the grass so green, but imagine the beauty as it

        melts away,

We could have the best of both worlds, spring on the one hand, winter on

       the other,

I think, this is an idea well past it time,

Man with his technological superiority could help here,

And, it would seem, Nature could mimic this idea as well…

Hi, Ed! On the whole, a lovely poem expressing universal sentiments.

Just one caveat.

Me thinks, which is actually spelled, "Methinks" is archaic English, and I wonder whether it has any place in Twenty-First Century English literature or poetry.... just my take on it.

Had you said, "I think", I believe the poem's appeal would have been even more immediate.

Great idea Ed....why don't those scientists do this...I am dieing here in this heat and it's not even summer yet here,I want snow...now!!!!
Ed...I love the originaltiy of this poem and its idea,to have tropical flowers in mid winter makes sense to me,it is so hot here I can't even go outside to sniff the orchards (yes some have devine scent)the seasons need to unite,to roll into one, then perhaps there will be a comfort zone for this hot little kangaroo.Great poem Ed.

Nice write, Ed but it is a proven fact that we shall not have our cake and eat it too, so to speak. Seasons come and seasons go but memories last forever!
Keep up the good work.
Jill :)
