I have been wanting to get back to my roots of writing, back to Nature writes, & hopefully this one will help to start me in that direction...ed

“Goose Call”

In the distance,

Just over the trees or beyond,

They flock in the hundreds,

To land in our pond,

On their ways further south.

Fed they get,

And rested too,

While on an overnight stay,

Much like the traveler,

In human form.

From whence do they come?

North the only answer,

These are real Canadian geese,

Who come to visit,

On our land that is leased.

We treat them with respect,

Although many don’t,

As they do make a bit of a mess,

At some special places, that we call home.

But the beauty of their flight,

In precision height,

Can more than make up for the small blight,

Left behind in their wake,

The brothers Wright must have studied,

Their winged flight,

Prior to their Kitty Hawk undertake.

Every year, I await their call,

As if on a telephone they tell us all,

We are on our way,

To stop by today,

And we welcome them one and all…

Beautiful nature write! I look forward to their return. Many never leave if they find ponds that stay warm.
