The young rarely notice Nature, ah, but what we miss way back when...

Poem Artwork

TAKEN FOR GRANTED…

I find as I age,

That I seem to become more the sage,

To examine Nature’s gifts closer,

To find in them qualities not yet seen,

When I was still underage.

The craggy rock jetties jutting from the shore,

Is no longer a place to play or to bore.

Meadows of differentiating shades of green,

Are there, now to be seen, so pristine.

Animals, fish and even bugs,

In past, hardly noticed, now so much more colorful,

Than even oriental rugs.

So many places to go,

Things to do & see,

In past, all taken for granted, by you and me,

I truly wish I had known where was the key,

When I was younger even would I have paid a fee,

Now I find myself to feel so much more free…         (ed)

This is so true! We all seem to appreciate more as we age. Perhaps because we know tomorrow may not come..Loved the imagery and thoughts you put into to this.
Sincerely
Antoinette

You captured the feeling, Ed. Losing youth and becoming sensitized at the same time. It's a pity we have to make the trade, but we shouldn't look a gift horse ...
Best regards,
Leland
