Nature, philosophy, metaphysics, all mans creation...do I truly care?

FREE?

If a tree should die,

just get old and wither away,

will we hear its cries of anguish & of pain?

will someone hear my cries of the same,

to die as a tree, old as hundreds of years,

but to still die the same, except to,

                   do so free!

to die as a whale, in the ocean so blue,

to suffer by the hand of man, torture, nothing new,

drift nets, over-fishing, no food to strain through my old teeth,

is my song that of communication or just plain pain,

man thinks it is my way to speak, I say it is my way to seek,

to seek out my god, to find out why I must die, by the hand of man,

I was here first, long before that incipient creature, his time just beginning,

why is it I must die, when it is he that kills himself, by killing me,

except that I do so,

                             FREE!

we kill that which we don’t understand,

if aliens did come, surely they would die by mans hand,

as surely as we killed the trees and the whales,

are we right in what we do?

do we have the right to do as we do?

are we justified?

just because we are man, the top of the food chain,

does not give us the right to kill, to end life, to take away existence,

oh god I feel the desire to cry, why is man the end all regards pain?

will man end his life like that of the creatures he has exterminated?

will man end his existence and still do so,

                                                          free!

so many creatures, gone…

never to exist again, none…

no more freedom, alone…

man needs to feel the loss,

that these creatures have suffered,

man needs to know the pain,

man needs to know what nature knows,

that man is truly at the bottom of the chain…

Mankind can be very disgusting at times! but there is another side that we don't hear about as much, because it is good news. Great write.

This was excellent Ed, and so very true, a powerful indictment of man's cruelty to his fellow earth dwellers!

You're right--man is at the bottom of the chain. Not only is man the base, he is the basest and cruelest creature. I don't understand how the most intelligent creature can be the most cruel.
