The carnivorous green

The nature of a carnivorous plant with its inbuilt mechanism to trap insects seems so paradoxical to the practise of Ahimsa ( Non Violence ) among certain beliefs of people

The practise of Ahimsa in Jainism, an aesthetic religion founded in India around
6th century BC is more stringent. It applies to all life forms so much so that it conjures up images of Jain monks and nuns who cover their mouth so that they don’t accidently breathe in any small living form, and try to clear the ground before them while their walk ,with feather brushes to avoid injuring the most miniscule forms of life!

Poem Artwork

 Carnivorous greens

Picture perfect designs

On the rim is  cover   sheath

Where raindrops help   flick   flies

And   dip  it  in  burning fluids

Lured   ‘twas   by  beauty  and looks

The tiny crawling, fly  now on hook

 Oozing   nectar,  glowing  colours

 Slippery moistened cavity

 Much like   an evil seductress

 Wooing   with  a lecherous   mind

  Small creatures   made victims

 Carnivorous greens thrive

Is it nature’s way of balancing

While Jain monks  live their life

Not to trespass on a creature live!

You sent me to Wikipedia to read up on Jainism.
It is very delicate and introspective in a world that is loud and barbaric. But I like it.

I wonder how Jain monks treat plants? I expect with the same reverence that they treat insects and animals. It is a wonder that they would have any food to eat.

I also am in awe of any plan that would prey on insects. Makes one wonder what they could evolve into… Intelligent meat eating plants? It's the stuff of science fiction.

A very interesting and unusual poetry subject… Much enjoyed.

Ahhh . . . the Venus flytrap situation, eh? Or, in human form . . . sweet, seductive, but lethal, Jezebel!
