Valentine's Day is coming, but sometimes take a little Caution.

Beware the Valentine

Valentine’s day’s were made for something, I think before I was here,
Cause if it was made for my Birthday , they missed it by half of a year,

Mama said, "Give this card to a pretty little girl, at the party, when we arrive",
Girl? I never knew there were such things , Heck, I was only five,

Mama turned me around and then she pointed, “There!”
Well I took the card and gave it to that kid with all the hair,

Yeah, I reckon she was pretty, in that pink flowered thing and all,
She sure looked a whole lot better than me, in my old overalls,

But boy you’d never catch me wearing anything, with all them frilly fixens,
Mom’s ol’rooster would tare me up , thinkin I was after his chickens,

Them Valentines came without my help, till I was turning ten,
I had fun just scaring the girls, cause I could pretend,

That in my ol’shirt pocket, believe me, I could make,
Them all believe it was a Valentine card, but it was a baby snake,

Teen age life was really something , but I never did go steady,
I handed out them Valentine cards , like they were confetti,

A family life and kids of my own, and now the fun begins,
Here comes that ol’Valentines day and away we go again,

Now he weren’t one of the three Wise men, but I remember what he said,
There’s only one way to live this life, if you don’t wanna be dead,

If you love your way of living, and your happy family life,
If you’re gonna give out a Valentine, make sure it’s to your wife!

ah, as the mom of sons, the line with baby snake brought a smile to my lips ... thanks for the memories

Yes, that last line was the best. The rest seemed like an advertisement for continuing the silly business of sending love greetings when you're a child and don't even know what that means. Young mothers seem to relish in getting their kids involved in love triangles while still in grade school--go figure. I'm sure that you won many hearts with your little surprise gifts of baby snakes. Sure captured mine. I love snakes. ;-).
