Farmers are good negotiators. A little poetic slant to an outside story.

Missing Bull

No Mister Lawyer, my Bull was missing after the train went through
I only wanted you to pay me for his registered full value.

The Attorney for the railroad was at a losing end
“He’s just an ol’hick Farmer, i can’t let him do me in”

“Look ,”he said, , “you’re fighting big city and a million dollar staff
I hold all the cards so how about just half?”

The Farmer smiling slightly , said,” pay me off in cash,
It’s not that I don’t trust you, but I’ve known of banks to crash,”

The big city lawyer gleefully paid, , one half the requested sum
Patting himself upon the back, he’d really taken this bum

Bragging; , "now that we have settled the case,
“ Mister, We couldn’t have ever even made first base.

When the incident occurred, the railroad didn’t stand a winning prayer,
You see the fireman was dead asleep and the engineer wasn’t there.

But when you’re dealing with a smart lawyer of my senior station,
You must have at least a Harvard education,

Winning your case was really just a dream,
When you’re dealing with the likes of my big city team!”

The ol Farmer pocketed his money, but smiling happy said,
“You know young feller I ain’t really the best of read,

I ain’t too good at legal stuff; glad we settled out of court,
Any kind of lawyer fees would leave me awful short,

And I was pretty sure I couldn’t win when wife phoned me informing ,
That darned ol’ missing bull of mine, came wandering home this morning.

Ah, ha! Gotcha! I guess the old country hick got those big city lawyers by the gonads.

Reminds me of the time that I went up against United Moving and Storage. After I paid a 10% contingency for the estimated weight being over on a move, they came back asking for an additional $700 for being overweight. I refused to pay and they sued me. I got my paperwork together and went to court to defend my action. They didn't show up with their New York lawyers, so the judge said, "Ruling for the defendant, case closed."
