Owed to Lefty
A word to the reader before we begin,
This Birthday party brought all of my friends,
Some were welcome and some were not,
Some’ll git throwed out and some’ll git shot,
In my own case I was in pretty good luck,
But if there was shootin, I still better duck,
And invites to a lot of my friends I feared,
Some might git arrested if they had appeared,
But, they came by car and they came by train,
Some came by horse and by Airyplane,
Some came on foot thru the wind and rain’
And shivered all night in a hurricane,
There ain’t much hurtin that they ain’t got,
Being friends of mine they suffer a lot,
Now I was told if I possibly could,
About myself to write something good,
Well, I wrote it all out and it smelled heaven knows,
Bu not like the proverbial pink colored rose,
These friends though are special, considerate and dear,
But they tell all the neighbors what I’ll never hear,
How I’m so tolerant and peaceful at ease,
With just a slight smiggin of Dunlaps disease,
My cowboy physique that really gets rapped,
Cause over the belt my belly done lapped,
Then there’s the subject of talents I had,
The training of horses and mules that were bad,
I won lots of metals and got lots to spare,
But, boys I’d be wealthy if money was there,
From the gold in my teeth, the silver from my hair ,
And the lead outta my What –cha-ma-call it a draggin back there,
That just about does it; not much more to say,
Hope you enjoyed , ol’Lefty’s Birthday.
