Ballistic Turkeys
Big Bird strikes on jet air planes, has become a major threat,
The FFA tried to find a means of testing they could get,
Researchers devised a turkey gun, one that they could test,
To fire a bird at a wind shield. seemed that was the best
The theory is that if the windshield doesn’t break or crack
It’ll survive a real collision from a bird’s impact,
The SPCA just got involved, they put their objection in, ,
You can’t be throwing live turkeys at your airplanes, Friend,
The test folks got excited, their engineer just wired back,
Sir we always use a dead bird for testing (after the first impact),
The government said this makes no sense,
It’s not requiring taxpayer expense,
We’ve got folks on the job retired,
A new department is required,
A Ballistic Launching of Turkeys Section ,
Will be developed to provide correction,
They can milk this baby and ride the free-bee train,
Then demand promotion for the governments gain,
A standard procedure of bureaucracies
They’ll be known in government as the BLT’s
Outstanding performance you’ll see in this bunch,
Primarily at Breakfast , Brunch and Lunch,
Well so much for their Guidelines; none were respected,
All of their recommendations were soon rejected,
Their thousand dollar turkeys that the government supplied ,
You could get at Wal Mart for twelve ninety five,
So much for the government, what did you get,
A BLT of dead turkeys and still no answer yet!
The art of Turkey testing, jolly ol’ England took it,
After all if launching didn’t work, you could always cook it,
The British Royal Air Force had to try their hand at some,
Was this where the English expression “Flippin the Bird” comes from?
The Brits were building a group of new transports,
They incorporated the very best of quality high tech imports,
They had added first class sleepers a sitting room and diner,
Testing was complete except the windshield on their Liner,
They borrowed the turkey launcher, loaded the bird and let her blast,
Sir Robert, their test conducter, was overjoyed, but it didn’t last,
The ballistic turkey shattered the windshield,
Then blasted through the cockpit seal,
Down the middle of first class floor ,
And through the rest room door,
It came to rest now wet and cold,
Sticking outta the toilet bowl.
The Brits were stunned as you could expect ,
Asked the FAA for a test recheck ,
Was Sir Roger’s test steps correctly done,
Or was it possible he’s missing one,
The FAA reviewed and said,
What’s wrong with all you people’s head,
“”Before you fire a ballistic fowl.
The Damn things gotta thaw out awhile,
A frozen turkey weighting fifteen pounds,
You could readily use for a cannon round.
We recommend you use common sense instead of a Red neck guess,
Then you won’t be faced with cleaning up a ballistic turkey mess,
Poor ol’Roger had bought the farm, , his reputation is shot
They’ll sue him now for testing failure and everything he’s got,
But Lo and Behold to borrow a phrase,
Sir Roger’s defense would surely amaze,
Said my rational for conducting the test,
Was based on Science , the very best,
A flying turkey would be thoroughly frozen , and really an amazing feat,
Remember your new Air Liners fly, at thirty thousand feet !

Interesting poetic piece Tom! Very interesting! LOL
Although I think you could have made the poem shorter (and sweeter). But government regulation does put a rather sticky wicket (I believe this is a British phrase) in the works when trying to get something done.
Thousand dollar turkeys! Egad! Sounds like the cost of my medical equipment. We have four turkeys in the freezer. When thawed out and cooked to perfection, I'm getting a turkey dinner with all the trimmings (white potatoes or sweet, giblet dressing, cranberry sauce) about 100 days a year for about $1.50 per serving. Yummy!
