Not as funny as some of your others but certainly very ironic. What with annual medical checkups, all those doctors, and occasional "elective" surgery, "the golden years" seem to be more like painful, money grabbing, take your last dime while we keep you alive, years.
I do know about you, but I'm not sticking around to get caught up in all this Hippocratic oath to keep me alive forever in a petri dish.
[Your last line, Tom, reminds me of that old Cape joke about the Italian astronaut...he was a real 'speciman', of course...but I'll spare you that needless grimace!] Your paean here is an amusing take on that journey all of us must embark upon, sooner or later, with some perhaps some a bit more often than udders (sic). And a Gurney is not, contrary to what them bovine experts might contend, in the same category as a Holstein or a Texas Longhorn! [I remain uncowed by that declamation but I certainly hope your Gurney drivers don't give you a bum steer, nevertheless!] Let's NOT, whatever we do when we read your tale, recall that memorable image from Tom Wolfe's 'The Right Stuff', wherein the NASA Mercury-7 boys are mincing down the corridor at the Lovelace Clinic as fast as they can hygienically manage it, holding enema bags high and hoping they make it to the ceramic throne safely before Ma Nature springs a nasty surprise upon them! Enjoyed this one! Probably even better when the lyrics are accompanied by a git-box melody (for a female astronaut, would that be 'Air on a G-String', I wonder? :)))
