And then I didn't believe it either, but I'm not into furniture.

Parlez Vous

He was on a buying trip to Paris, but he didn’t speak their lingo,
He was with a furniture business on a downtown street in Reno,

Met a stunning beauty at the hotel check in drive,
Too bad they couldn’t talk, but their language didn’t jive,

He was quite impressed and wanted to know her better,
But English didn’t match the French, even to a letter,

Hey now here’s an idea, it might be a stretch,
I’m not the greatest artist, but I’ll draw her a sketch,

He drew up a taxi and pointed to the local park,
The girl seemed quite delighted , maybe he had hit the mark,

He then drew up a table in a restaurant type setting,
At her nod, he knew that warmer things were getting,

Dinner over, he sketched two dancing figures having fun,
This really broke the ice and they enjoyed till day was done,

Night clubs , shows and champagne, they ran around till closing,
The girl then took the pencil, looked like she was drawing clothing,

But no it was a sketch of a French four poster bed,
Said, I’ll be damned , he took her home, and nothing more was said,

But two years later, still mystified by how this girl could possibly know,
He was in the furniture buying business way back home in Reno.

It's tough when you don't know the language. You miss the cues (and the P's and a few other things.) Of course, none of us who are reading this have ever been in this situation. Have we? Thanks for pointing out that if people communicated better the world would go around a whole lot faster.

This was one of your best. I can't believe the furniture buyer would miss her clue. But that's the humor in your story poem. We all have missed cues. Like the beautiful girl with German and half Swedish origin, while visiting my apartment I shared with another guy. When I showed her my bed she patted it as if to give it a try. I should have taken her up on the deal right there. But isn't.

Enjoy K2 success story. My failure was that passing the test for French as a second language at the University of Wisconsin. A doctoral requirement that I failed the first time.

And there was the luscious German girl at our pool in California who left Germany and was in Paris when she met her husband, giving her a really cool mixed accent in English. She married a draft dodger from El Paso. He didn't seem to mind me much. I even taught her to drive and she once indicated that she would marry me after him.

Absolutely and delightfully whimsical, Tom! I had a somewhat similar encounter with a French ballet dancer (we were both taking a holiday in Munich at the time) and of course neither of us spoke the other's language. This was drop-dead beautiful 'Danielle', who normally lived on a yacht with her wealthy boyfriend off the Cote d'Azur and had taken the train up to complete an advanced course in le danse. Since we both spoke rudimentary German (naturlich!), we communicated in that 'furrin' tongue' and 'did Munchen' together for the evening (I, masquerading as an American 'lehrer piloten' from Saudi who was on holiday). Since I was staying at the luxurious Vier Jahreszeiten Hotel and had a huge accommodation there, I invited her to spend the night, discretely offering her the other of two queen size beds in that suite. Long story short, we quickly ended up in the same bed and she taught me things I am convinced never even entered the most remote imagination of the authors of the Kama Sutra (or even the wild antics of John McAfee's Tantric Sex groupies!)! That remains as one of the 'peak experiences' of my amorous life...and all thanks to my German language studies and the post-war effects of the rather truncated 'Thousand Year Reich!' Yer a regular jewel, Tom! :)

Having lived in French-speaking country, I enjoyed this immensely, knowing what it is like dealing in foreign languages.

You're lucky she didn't draw a picture of the Eiffel Tower.
Funny. And you are still crazy!
