Would You be a Valentine

Is it, a token of affection or a true lovers note,
With roses or flowers and something they wrote,

Do you really answer and say you accept,
Maybe, better watch out where you just stepped,

History, repeats, I’m sure you know that,
To accept could be something to take a look at,

The first Valentine men were bad mistakes made,
Kinda lost their heads to the mad Roman’s blade,

I could understand it, hittin on another man’s wife,
But these guys weren’t hittin, but still lost their life,

Marriage wasn’t popular in those days you see,
Young men were preferred with no family,

One Valentine in Jail didn’t quite learn this point,
Don’t romance the jailer’s daughter for keys to the joint,

February fourteenth was picked by a man, maybe jealous,
Was an old bird watcher, a peeping Pope Gelasius,

See it was determined by him, there’s no doubt,
The first day of the year with birds making out,

Not true today with this climate change stuff ,
Getting EPA approval makes everything rough,

There’s more marriage customs , some hard to conceive,
Selecting a suitor you wouldn’t believe,

For young girls the customs were always too stern,
Required them to put all their names in an urn,

Then young men drew names, Craziest thing ever saw,
Like the Bar room at midnight, gittin luck of the draw,

Some say that custom was really too dumb,
Is “marriage a croc” where that statement comes from,

Ol’ Cupid’s gold arrows he shoots on this day,
But don’t hold your breath , put that thought away,

He,s losing his rep with a custom that old,
Hang up your bow Buddy with today’s price of Gold !

Well I gotta end this session and to all of you say,
I’ll be your ol ‘Valentine any ol’day!
