Listening to Sufi oud and flute,
Thinking mellow Sufi thoughts as I code html.
The bones inside the book.
Suddenly a sharp jab!
I stop, afraid to look too closely at the wound.
Is it bleeding?
No.
Only the barbed end of a semi-colon
Slicing into an innocent tag.
I pull it out, round off the sharp spike.
There! A colon: Harmless without its sting.
This is a clever use of the symbols that bind us to words. Without the simple and accurate use of rules of grammar, we would only write long continuous and incomprehensible sentences. Maybe that's why there's a barb in that semicolon. That was a fun poem to read. Bob
