How do I live with the ghosts?
he wants to know
those innocent eyes
caught in the battle
the wails of mothers
of those wounded babies
and shattered soldiers
oh god, he says I don't know
I fight for America
and give countries freedom
from the tyranny of terror,
and the honor and glory
I thought justified
for the service I render
quickly disappears when
I see those eyes, inside my mind
Oh baby, oh baby our spirits are there
hugging you tight with a heart of love
holding you close encouraging tears
cry on our shoulders while no one is near
just we and you baby and all is forgiven
the glory our son, is you did your job
and casualties of war are torn bodies,
and the screams, and the blood
The honor our son, is within your heart
and when you come home
you'll understand a value of life
Remember baby, when it's all said and done
every soul serves its purpose
as it marches along
who crosses your path
had its own journey
and was placed, in perfect timing
with our creators knowing
that its purpose, was now done
Remove this burden from your heart
our baby, our soldier, our son
in mom and dad's eyes, you've done no wrong

Every mother's son, wife's husband, child's father - or mother... tragedy that is unique and personal for every family involved on whatever side the battle lines are drawn. Thank you for homing in on the true perspective of the horrors of war - even more so, perhaps, for those fighting for "others'" causes. Heartbreaking. And every soldier MUST believe in what he/she is fighting for, otherwise how can they "fight" with integrity? We have, perhaps, a "moral" duty to support them as individuals - even if we are more than a little sceptical about the cause. The choice to wage war has, after all, not been theirs... on the other hand, theirs was the decision to enlist in the first place: to defend rather than to attack would be my hunch. God bless each and every one of them.

Nice joint venture. I have a friend who just returned from Iraq because of wounds received. I have not seen him, but have received a letter. He basically said that he is proud to be a part of what is happening over there and so are the vast majority of Americans who are currently serving. Moral is not low, as some news organizations would like us to believe. He said he is shocked at the slant of most of the news stories on the networks. I for one am not shocked at the networks... but I'll not bore you with that. This is a wonderful write.
