Walk in the Park

Humans have become the dominant species in this epoch. But there have been five mass extinctions of life on earth since its creation. There is strong evidence that a sixth mass extinction is underway. Only this time it is not caused by geological upheavals or meteors from outer space. This time, all evidence points to man. Our short epoch of exceptional human success may be over if we do not confront what we are doing to our fertile nest in the process.

Walk in the Park

For most, life is no,

walk in the park.

It's a shot in the dark,

certainly not a lark.

Some are born with that,

silver spoon in their mouth.

Simply can't go south,

for all their worth.

For there is no better place,

on this green earth.

Than a walk in the park,

of mother nature's birth.

The birds and the bees,

all seem to live at ease,

but there is a struggle,

all is not love and cuddle.

It's all eat or be eaten,

in a voracious food chain.

Predators clean the table,

so why are they to blame?

Letting the weak die,

is part of nature's game,

so, the strong survive,

and reproduce again.

The species are stronger,

as generations evolve,

survival of the fittest,

huge problems to solve.

Our success run of late,

may be running out.

Our walk in the park,

filling up with doubt.

We had better get fit.

We had better get smart.

Or our walk in the park,

time will record as a spark.

Instead of another extinction, nature could be weeding the undesirables from the mix. The result might be an improved version of the life we now know. People may predict doom and gloom. But no one can see into the future.

And that spark seems to be getting closer at hand lately. Your walk in the park is such a good metaphor for what so many are missing in their lives, i.e., pursuing stuff as the only goal worth attaining, missing all the values you sight so eloquently in this piece. Let us hopw the right people read this and take heed, not just read to let you know they read... or scanned, or... doG. Today, to expect most to read and re-read a message like this is asking a lot.

WE CERTAINLY SHOULD TAKE BETTER CARE OF 'THE GIFT' OF BOTH OUR NATURAL RESOURCES AND INHABITANTS, AS WELL AS OURSELVES. GREAT POETRY GIVING GOOD ADVICE. THANK YOU, RONALD. AND I ENJOYED THE VIDEO OF YOUR TRAVELS AS I ALWAYS DO. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

Aren't our lives for all intents and purposes just a slight spark in time anyway? Should we then try to make better a world that's headed to its end? I think we should just sit back and enjoy what little time we've got left with a drink in one hand and joint in the other...:) -e-

Such and apt and timely poem, Ron... ...and I agree with you completely. Evidence giving credence to your message is emerging all over the planet. Love, peace, and best wishes,

Regis.

If all the young people - well, actually young and the old - would throw away their cellphones and read this wonderful poem it would teach them something worthy of learning. I wish the cell phone has never been invented. Thank you for a meaningful poem, Ron!

Dear Ron,
Mystic Rose and I agree. There are good things on TV. One show on Netflix I highly recommend is, "The Kindness Diaries" which is in it's second season. It's such an inspiration to see how truly kind people can be. Yes, it's a "walk in the park" because all you need to do is watch and see. I watch re-runs and they never get old to me.

Enjoyed your poem!

That's the truth, and nothing but the truth, and it's never been more important to have leadership that understands the danger we face. Religion also needs to keep out of the debate because "god "is not going to save us from ourselves. I don't care how many prayers are said.

Yes! We need to "get fit" and "get smart" indeed, Ron. This is a prophetic write and we all see it coming but greed certainly blinds some people. Nature is brilliant. Man..........not so much........

Love ya!

I love your poem here, its speaks volumes, we as humans can do so much and yet we don't, if you have Netflix, there is a movie called "I Am Mother" its about a young who gets raised by an android, amazing movie if you can find it, it explains a lot about how humans are self destructing, If you do see it let me know your thought s on it, sending you a hug, and a smile, xo

It's where we are headed, unless we all wake up.

Indeed, life is lion eat gazelle, however, they don't us firearms, just whatever nature has provided.

Very apt and excellent write.

Ron,
Great poetry and thought provoking.
Yes animals eat each other.Unlike humans they are not greedy. They do not kill or destroy for fun or greed. With all the struggle happening in nature, there is a general peace in there. Perhaps it is acceptance of life.
