I was not going to mention it, but a prickly pear is the fruit of a cactus known as Ficus D'India, widely known in the Mediterranean area, Africa and mid America. However, I think you deserve a poetic licence and I applaud you for your poem. Victor

I'd say your prickly-pear is totally different than those here in Texas, 'tho. Ours is a reddish pome (no typo) that grows atop a cluster of cacti - that has devilish long and sharp thorns! Ouch!
