Autumn will soon arrive
And bring with it
The wafting aroma
Of burning leaves
And the brilliant
Final displays
Of trees and flowers.
Morning frost will appear
On the browning grass
While the last of the birds
And monarch butterflies
Head south
To more temperate
Lands,
Leaving the countryside
Bare but for
The heartiest
Of God’s creatures.
Put away are
My shorts
And summer tops
In favor of flannel
And sweaters,
But I don’t mind
Wearing more clothes.
I love the fall
Of the year.
Some may say
The Earth is dying,
But I know
It is only
Going to sleep.
A lovely, apt, and timely poem at the onset of another autumn making an appearance as the first leaves start to fall. I love autumn as well. Very nicely done, Rebecca. Love, peace, and best wishes to you,
Regis. 😊🌼🌳🍁

Nice collection of Autumnal imagery and the shift from natural to personal is deft and delicate, along with the closing piece of personification. Sweet stuff, Rebecca.
