Rita is a Cat 4, could very well be a Cat 5 when she roars onto the Texas coast, causing widespread devastation. Here in North Texas, she is forecast to move through the area as a tropical storm on Saturday and Sunday, and may cause very gusty (possibly damaging) sustained winds of 30-50 mph, flooding downpours, and possible isolated tornadoes...GAD I hope not. Karen and I are more than ready to move to Alaska!! Keep us in your prayers...
Rita thunders across the Gulf, intent on bringing destruction to an already devastated coast.
Swirling her winds about her, she laughs as she stomps on mankind's weak attempts to forecast where she will go next.
They say she's coming to Texas, but, like a woman's wont to do, could change her mind, depending on her mood.
The forecast doesn't bode well for those living with the reminders of the last hurricane and what it wrought.
Anxiety levels rise with the approach of another storm ... this one, frankly, scares the hell out of me.
Let me move to Alaska, where the only storms are magnetic ... Northern Lights can't kill anyone, can they??

I'm glad you posted this, Karla because I didn't have you and Karen's exact location in TX fixed clearly in my mind and wondered if you were directly in Rita's initial path. We have a mighty God, Karla, and He will keep you in the shadow of His wings as you rest in Him. I feel it is all too easy for me to say such things when I'm up here out of the eye of the storm, but prayer is the only thing that can compete with these vast physical and metaphysical powers. It certainly seems like earth is reaping the whirlwind right now, quite literally, and it is all the more devastating as it seems the same "few" people are being targetted all the time to take this huge hammering. Whether it be from high winds or too much carbon monoxide in our cities, one way or another life seems increasingly toxic and, as Eileen highlights, there seems to be few safe places left to be able to breathe a sigh of relief. At least you can prepare AND pray! In my thoughts and prayers as ever. LOL Kate xx

Earthquakes up there in North to Alaska, a little southeast of Nome." Sorry about that Johnny Horton ripoff. Besides earthquakes they have snoe. A . . . lot . . . of . . . cold . . . snow. Good poem.
The Northern Lights won't kill you in Alaska, Karla, but seismic activity there, as in many places, is increasing all the time - so an earthquake might.
But I sincerely pray that Rita fizzles out somehow and somehow doesn't wreak more devastating havoc on an area that can truly not afford any more destruction and terror right now.
