I know, I know...another hurricane write. Know you're getting tired of them.....

Enough, already
with tempetuous winds and
massive ocean waves ...

let me catch my breath
between one onslaught before
the next approaches;

the walls protecting
my emotions are battered
and can't take much more.

My pen has been breached
and my words have eroded
into nothingness -

and what scares me the
most is that I can't find me
in all the chaos

of words blowing through,
the blue notes of depression
howling in the night.

Will I survive this
damn storm with my mind intact
or will they find me

blubbering like an
idiot like all the rest
who were affected?

God, I'd give anything
to find the beauty once more ...
Enough, already.

(c) 2005, Karla Dorman.

I think you located the empathy we all feel for the victims of these storms. You found it and nailed it down and framed it and pointed a big red arrow at its heart.
Best regards,
Leland

it doesn't really matter that you've written a dozen more about hurricanes, this poem is infused with voice and rhythm and meaning. write what presents itself and we're all at our best. Dawn

that's the blessing Karla, "not being in the chaos." Sometimes this is all we have, not being in trouble ourselves. So we pray for others who are

Karla,

Some of our best words are creation of chaos and disaster. Your beauty is still there.

We must face life's trials as they are presented to us and we must deal with them in whatever way helps us to make sense of them. We are writers, we pour onto the page what flows through our veins. I pray that the hurricanes are behind us, but there will be new trials as we continue our journey through this life.
Take care,
Sherry

Karla your poems are always important and have a good message! Events that are happening should certainly be written about as much as you find the impetus to do so. This is fine writing, from a caring heart!

Eileen

I just wish you well, sweets! You will find beauty - with time. Hopefully the season ends with not much damage. Keep well dear.

You'll find beauty again and again. I think that perhaps all this bad weather will cause many of us to really notice and appreciate the splendid beauty of "normal" days and nights. Perhaps Katrina and Rita have caused us to appreciate our homes and loved ones, even more. Very well expressed, Karla!

How can we grow tired of that which causes untold suffering - and what right have we, the unaffected, to, anyway? You have given us this "another" write with such stark reality and searing agony that it is like I feel Katrinas lashing again for the first time, whipping up the fear and anticipation - both of onslaught and now, in the light of experience, aftermath. Be well and be safe, Karla. Be strong and hold on - I know you will as your spirit is immense. Your pen is almost your power and your protection - your means to overcome. This is acute and it can never be "Enough" to hear about it - and certainly not in the unique and refreshing ways that you portray the issues. LOL and prayers, Kate xx

Whatever is there, "Enough, Already" said it in full.

An enjoyable reading. A poetic task fulfilled to stimulate
thoughts on humanity.

Hurricane season ends in November, though that is not much help for now, but then you will complain about something else, LOL! But just think of all the water you are getting, won't need to worry about showers and fresh water for awhile...Ed

The New Orleans area is saying that. We are lucky and safe here in Southwest Houston with full tanks of gasolinein the garage and intermittant sunshine.
