Fiction, but not for all: God bless those whose sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, fathers and mothers, serve.
"Casualty"
I exploded in the hall, a bomb flying off in all directions, little pieces going everywhere, when I saw the car pull into the drive and two Marines step out: crying out in fear, I screamed, 'No! It can't be my son, please tell me it isn't true ,' but it was. The war has hit too close to home; I am a casualty of it, but won't be counted among the dead.
Drama beyond words you've expressed like a sledgehammer. So many of our young men/women are traumatized/worse than even WWII, it's still happening. God Bless the families, men, women who are faced with this day-in day-out...forever!
Peace&Grace,
Sharon
O, my God, Karla! The drama and poignancy of your words hit me in the gut like a sledgehammer. You've placed the reality of today's world on my doorstep and in my heart.
Parents die first. That's the natural order. We may not like it, but we accept it and go on. But when circumstances reverse the order, the trauma is overwhelming and numbs us to the core.
How much more can we endure? can we permit? can we allow?
We know our days are numbered. Can the time be far off?
This feeling of devastation you describe in this heart wreching poem is a brilliant capture of the emotions felt when you receive that call or that knock at the door...I know that personally
love and peace, Carole
And the pain would touch even deeper if the son was a suicide bomber without the knowledge of the family as it had happened in South Israel recently. The Gaza family got to know about him shortly after he killed himself along with other Israels. well done dear sister
That is the worst job in the military, telling loved ones of the death of their son, daughter, mother, father, etc...this shows it better than anything I have ever heard of...Ed

Powerful write Karla, a lady and friend whom goes to church with us, has a son in Iraq and is having a terrible time coping...the news is devestating each night due to the graphic details that are made available to the world! This amazes me! We see a side of war that was never possible in the past...I'm not really sure if this is a good thing or not? Great write my friend, very thought provoking!

Every single day this horrendous truth hits a family somewhere and it just doesn't let up. How many congressmen/president...how many of them have faced this since this war started?
Love,
Susan
Karla...wars are ugly; they steal your loved ones without a thought of pain and suffering left behind. "Casualty" a sound reminder. Powerful! Thanks for posting!
Powerful write, Karla; very well done! BRAVA! Thank you for your service, and thank God you didn't have to go to any war! War is hell for all involved, both for those who fight, and for those who don't; war affects everyone!
