Had a hard time deciding what catagory to put this under. Humor? Horror? It fits in either....

Poem Artwork

... Madagascar roaches
are hissing mad, worn as jewelry;
what will they think of next?
festooned with rhinestones and
sparkles to look more attractive,
the new fashion statement ...
frankly, I'd rather wear diamonds.

Yuck!!! and more Yuck!!! I prefer to see in a woman a pearl or a diamond not a vermin, no matter how precious it is by bein jewelled all over.
A jewell should only be second to the smile of who is wearing it.
Well done.

Haha! You and I are from the south and so can't imagine that anyone would find anything beautiful about a cockroach. ;-) When I saw this on CSI, I thought it was just bizarre enough to be true.

Enjoyed your write, Karla. Thanks for mentioning me. Got a chuckle too form Jude's comment on Marily Monroe. :-)

Uggg! And ... Uggg again! It makes me wonder what kind of person would wear roach jewelry? Why on earth would ANYONE follow such a fad? And what the heck is wrong with the fashion industry?

Aside from the obvious intent and sentiment here dear Karla, this could also be a great metaphor for those devious characters, and charlatans, that probe our consciousness everyday and try to cling to us like mephitis.

Well done!

OK, You hit me on my weak spot...I just don't like bugs, never even could bring myself to wear a scarab ring my grandmother gave me. I will not be wearing one of those, I have a hard time wearing the ones made of gold, yes, even the gentle butterflies. To me a bug is a bug is a bug and most who cross my path find a quick death by flip-flop. Thanks for letting us all in on what is now chic, Karla, suddenly I am glad that I am out of the loop. <grin>
Take care,
Sherry

I must have been a real fashion trendsetter. I remember a time in the military when I lived with roaches every day, and they were all over everything, even in my undies!!
