Observations of life around me.

... humidity clings
to the body like
a woollen blanket;
mosquitoes hum an
unwanted whine to
ears tuned to their song;
the heat smashes birds
to silence in the
thickened atmosphere;
tree limbs bow under
the press of summer's
heavy handed weight;
these, the images
of seasonal change
as I took my walk ....

(c) 2007, Karla Dorman (6/9)

Love the images you depict, made me go out and take a look! You are right, it is quiet, bird feeders only 1/2 empty, unusal.....

Be safe,
Karen

A write full of powerful imagery, enjoyed this my friend...the eye of the poet is much different than the eye of any other, for we see more details, we savor the beauty as well as the destruction of the land. The eye of the poet is a portal to the soul of the beholder...enjoyed, my friend write on!
Blessings,
Joyce B.

Birds perhaps use brownish autumn leaves as true mirrors that don't give unflattering images back.
But it is still summer, and nobody cares how they look, as the sun shines and happiness bounces from cloud to cloud.

Karla, a great example of how I feel right now...we've had high ninety degree weather here the last few days and my body feels exactly as you've describe in this poem. Your voice in this is real and illustrates the exactness of the images you've describe here. Great images and a great poem.

And in Texas, those "seasonal" changes can occur within a mere minute's notice, can't they, Karla?!! There's nothing like 40 degree temperatures, one month, and 90s, the next!

A very informative poem for those unaware of the atmospheric changes we endure here!

Thanks,
Jill
