Death Came Calling

The cost, the cost, the terrible cost!

The life winked out of eyes
that once saw all.  Mouth slack,
open in an "O" of
surprise.  Head canted to
the left, skin mottled as
the ground he lays on.  Death
came calling.  A bullet
found its mark.  Thought he would
live forever:  he will,
on shiny black granite.

Cold shivers tremle with the reading of this stark but real write. All to often this is the final ending to a soldiers young life. Thank you for reminding us Karla.
