Winter died - one brief heavy burst and that was it. A light dusting here, areas to the north got up to nine inches of snow! Figures - we get gypped, again. :(
Rain beginning to
change to bursts of snow,
even as I write -
Winter refuses
to let go without
one. Last. Gasp: three to
five, depending on
where you are and which
way the low pressure
system goes. Could be
more, or less. Falling
so hard, it's slapping
against the windows -
huge flakes mixed with sleet/
mixed with rain, with an
occasional flash
of lightning and low
rumble of thunder -
Guess Winter forgot
it's supposed to be
Spring in a few weeks ...

I saw my first Robin ever here,
at my son's house in the Catskill mountains
In the winter I used to wake up to see about a dozen
feeding on the fruits of a cherry tree in front of the house;
Forgive me, but it was one hell of a day. Lights flickering on and off, winds rattling my windows and 6 to 7 inches of snow and for a backdrop rain, sleet, thunder, lightning, enough already.... However, on the lighter side I finally got to use my snow shovel, tee-hee....
Well, well, my dear friend, how many times have you asked for snow? So now you know, the Universe does listen and will give you what you want, not necessarily when you want it..lol, be sure to beware of what you ask for, you will get it...

This winter has been like a bad weed... you can yank in any direction-- pull it out by the root, dump a gallon of herbicide on it, or a teapot full of boiling water, and it just won't die. It looks like it sometimes, but then a few days later, there's another nasty tendril (of weather) poking his tongue out at us... Die, you winter. Die! Die!!! --Charlie (says as she stares out her back window at the still 2 ft of crusted snow there) Die you punk. Die! Die!!!
Slapping against the windows...I vaguely remember that sound...would love to hear it again. One woman's waste is another woman's treasure, Karla, but this poem is all treasure!
Karla, this picture captures your words exactly and paints a more detailed picture of the moment. This has lots of good images, sounds, and a sense of feelings in this poem. I liked it a lot.
Winter: acting like a stubborn child--acting like...ME! LOL Too bad it waited until the beginning of spring to make her appearance!! Better late than never...LOL Excellent; very well penned and illustrated! BRAVA!

Winter's memory seems to be akin to mine... I have a complete whiteout of cognition a LOT of the time! :)) Winter, like me, needs a bit of dosing up with copious amounts of VitD. Hopefully, your weather poetry will make that ol winter shape up a bit and scuttle off, back to the North Pole... A nice bit of slappin here! K xx
