My prayers for all those affected by Hurricane Ike.

... nothing more than an annoyance,
here, Hurricane Ike. Nothing more
than occasional rainbands and wind,
some inconveniences with fluctuating
power, due to trees touching lines.
Not so in other places: Haiti. Cuba.
Galveston. Houston. Texas City.
And more along the track: they
felt the full fury of the storm. Will be
a while 'til things get back to normal ...
We rode out the storm well. Less than Alicia because the eye, this time, did not come over my house but 25 miles to the east of downtown. Many who left and went up your way are coming back to nothing or no electricity too soon.
We have water and electricity (see my AD news) and are taking people in who don't.
I'm glad you and your sister are OK. I wish for all those who foolishly did not leave a storm zone they should have that they will be quickly rescued BUT it seems so many in Texas (unlike you) were not learning from the experience of many others here in Florida in '04 and those sad unfortunate victims of Katrina in '05. Hurricanes are not usual storms! All hurricanes can kill if one doesn't make the tough decisions. It really is hard to learn by experience only...
for those heavily impacted by Ike, normalcy is indeed a relative term at this point -- glad to know you were not seriously impacted Karla -- stay safe -- JMW
You've got it right. Nothing we can really do. I too pray for all the people in Texas, especially you and Karen. (I don't know if you live in that area of Texas, I hope not)
I guess one thing normal is is not having to shovel and shoo mud and water out of your house. I, too, feel fully for all the storm victims, the alive and dead. Good write.
I kept watching and hoping at the last minute would fizzle out but Old Ike came in like gang busters and brought the ocean with him. So glad you and Karen are safe and I too pray for them in his path. Lovely and compassionate write Karla, Love and hugs, Bonnie
Kept watching Ike's track once he was on land and heading Northerly and saw it skimming Dallas and thought immediately of you two though you are south of Fort worth I still thought you might get a bit hammered...glad you, for the most part, came through okay...Ed & Rufuz
I pray those left behind, either by choice or because they couldn't get out in time, are okay; the entire southeast coast region of Texas (and the United States) is in my thoughts and prayers! Very good write, Karla; brava!
