This is a circumhorizontal arc, a brightly colored band of light caused by the sun shining through plate-shaped ice crystals in cirrus clouds. Not a very common sight. This one seen across North Central Texas on 4/16/09, lasting more than an hour. It was beautiful!

Mesmerizing, Karla. I would have liked to see this in person. The other night went I was headed to work, there was a double rainbow straddling the main road in my town. I could still see it from the highway. Someone at work told me they saw it from another town. I thanked God for His work that night. Love and Hugs,
Sheila
... makes me think God took his little hammer and straightened the bow out!! :)) I love the way you expand our knowledge and understanding of these things, Karla, thank you. I continually lament how much on earth I overlook everyday... but you teach us that we certainly DO need eyes on top of our head as well, in order to not miss out... now I'm doubly lamenting!! How fortunate that this rare incident was not lost but captured in both your words and this video. You are not only StormSpinner but SkyWalker, too... xx
beautiful rainbow Karla -- this upward curving arc shows that the true wonder and enjoyment in a rainbow is not dependent upon any old pot of gold at the end -- it is in the serenity and awe of the observation -- peace and love my friend -- Jon Michael
Thanks for sharing this, Karla. I've never seen this! Awhile back saw a triple rainbow that was huge. They are so beautiful. This kind of reminds me of the Northern Lights when I lived in Michigan. Beauty of a write!
Gorgeous. The rainbow is the sign of God's promise that he will never again destroy the earth with a flood. Unfortunately, the next time will be with fire. Here is a fun question for you. When is a door not a door?
Answer: when it is ajar. lol Love your poem kiddo. Hugs, J'nia
