Semper Fi from an ex-USAF medic.

Poem Artwork

The sky rips apart in an
explosion louder than
thunder; a bright light
and then, nothing --

he wakes up to a new
world charged with
pain.  Life as it was
before can never be

again.  He is one of
the few, the proud, the
strong who don't let
the loss of legs or arms

get in the way of their
mission:  to be the best.
Once a Marine, always
a Marine:  Semper Fi.

You're so right in your poem "Once a Marine". I know just such a person and he paid the "near" ultimate price as he struggles every day just to make it through the day with his painful disability.

From the Halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli, we fight our country's battles in the air on land and sea.
First to fight for right and freedom and to keep our honor clean;
we are proud to bear the title of United States Marines.

Again, it doesn't take 500 words to say what is to be said. Very well written and only goes to prove, where you're concerned, once a poet always a poet.
